It’s about You.
Even though sometimes
it would comfort me more
if it were about me.
I suppose that for my sinful heart,
believing it is about me
can bring
a momentary relief from grief.
A kind
of anesthesia from reality.
Because it would mean
that everything I live through
is the product
of my own will.
But it’s about You.
And when it’s about You,
there is nowhere we can run,
because apart from You
we cannot exist.
When it’s about You,
doubt might overwhelm me,
because my unfaithful heart
would rather
it were about me.
If it were about me,
I would have no one to blame,
but neither
would I have anyone to run to.
That is why I am glad
that it is about You.
Because when it’s about You,
I can trust
that not one
of Your words
will be forgotten.
And if they were,
You would not fail me.
You would fail Yourself.
So my heart
can rest
in knowing that will never happen,
because the future rests
only
in Your hands.
“It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it. You will live in joy and peace. The mountains and hills will burst into song, and the trees of the field will clap their hands! Where once there were thorns, cypress trees will grow. Where nettles grew, myrtles will sprout up. These events will bring great honor to the LORD’s name; they will be an everlasting sign of his power and love.”
